International students

We can’t wait to see you in January! If you're a new international student, don’t forget to complete registration.

You'll need to first complete online registration and then book your appointment on campus. This is when you will need to bring your identification and documents, so that our team can make sure everything is correct.

During your registration appointment, you will also pick up your student ID card.

Step-by-step guide to completing online registration

Step 1 – set up your university account
You will receive an email asking you to set up an account so that you can complete registration for your place here at Herts. It's a great idea to get this done as soon as you can so that nothing gets delayed.
Your university account will give you access to systems and resources such as StudyNet and Canvas, which you’ll need for your studies. Keep an eye on your inbox for an email asking you to set up your account.
Step 2 – start registration
Before your course starts, you should receive another email asking you to complete registration. To start registration, click 'Online Registration' under the services heading in your student record.
Step 3 – check your course information
It’s a good idea to check your course details, including your course title, to make sure everything is correct. If you have studied at Herts before, please select the course that you are currently completing registration for.
If anything looks wrong, contact our Ask Herts team for help. Please note, your course start and end dates may appear differently to those stated on your CAS letter.
Step 4 – add in your address details
Next, you’ll need to confirm your address. It’s important to keep this up to date during your time at Herts. Make sure you complete your full address details, as it is essential for your safety and will help us get any important documents such as your qualification certificates, to you at the right address.
If you're not sure what information to add to the fields, please use the guidance below:
- home address – this is where you normally live outside of term-time, so it will be your home country address. Please note, the postcode lookup will only work for UK addresses. If you wish to add an overseas postcode, please enter this into the last line of the address
- term address – this is your UK address where you will be living while you’re studying at Herts. Make sure to provide an exact address - if you are living in University accommodation your full address will be included in your accommodation emails or you can find it in our student guides for living on campus at de Havilland or College Lane
- work address – we will only need this completed if you are studying a course directly linked to an employer, such as a degree apprenticeship.
Step 5 – add details of your emergency contact
We will need the details for someone you would like us to contact in case of emergency. It’s a good idea to add someone who is also located in the UK (e.g. a friend) who is happy to be contacted immediately or to assist you, whilst you’re at uni.
Step 6 – questions about Herts students
All universities in the UK need to provide regular statistics about their students to the Higher Education Statistics Agency (HESA). This is to help get an idea of who is studying with us here at Herts. This section will go through questions such as ethnicity, your highest qualifications, any disabilities you want to share, how you’ll be funding your studies and your religion or beliefs.
These questions are mandatory and there is an explanation available by clicking on each of the questions. If you wish, you can select ‘information refused’ for questions you would not like to answer.
Step 7 – tell us about your career aspirations
By telling us about your career aspirations, you can receive personalised support with your plans from our Careers and Employment team.
Step 8 - additional questions
To access personalised support, you will be asked if you are a care leaver, estranged, a parent or a carer.
Step 9 – review your information and check the terms and conditions
Here you’ll see a summary of all the information you’ve entered.
Take a moment to check you have completed everything correctly. You will also see a link to the university’s terms and conditions. Make sure to read through it because once you submit your form you will be agreeing to accepting your place at Herts and bound by our terms and conditions.

What next?

Once you've completed online registration, your next step is booking your registration appointment on campus. At your appointment, you’ll get your student ID card.
